Cambodia and Vietnam Commit to Enhancing Defense, Security, and Tourism Ties

Melbourne, Australia: Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam convened to discuss the deepening of their bilateral relations. The meeting underscored a mutual commitment to strengthen and expand cooperation in defense, security, tourism, and infrastructure development between the two neighboring nations.

The dialogue began with an exchange of warm greetings, during which Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended his congratulations to Cambodia on the successful conduct of its 5th Senate election and lauded the Cambodian People's Party for securing 55 seats. He also acknowledged his courtesy calls on prominent Cambodian figures, including King Norodom Sihamoni and Hun Sen, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the King and former Prime Minister, among other leaders.

Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the opportunity to reconnect with his Vietnamese counterpart, emphasizing the significance of their meeting as a platform for both reviewing ongoing collaborative efforts and exploring avenues for future joint initiatives.

A focal point of their discussions was the strategic areas ripe for further collaboration between Cambodia and Vietnam, notably in defense and security, tourism, and infrastructure connectivity. Projects such as the Phnom Penh-Bavet-Ho Chi Minh Expressway were highlighted as key infrastructure initiatives. Within the framework of the CLV (Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam) Tripartite Cooperation, the leaders underlined the importance of the forthcoming 12th CLV Summit and called for enhanced cooperation among various ministries and institutions to advance the CLV agenda further.

In the realm of tourism, there was a consensus on the need for the respective Ministries of Tourism to intensify dialogue and identify strategies to catalyze tourism growth within the three countries. Additionally, the discussion touched upon several matters of mutual interest, further solidifying the foundation for Cambodia and Vietnam's ongoing partnership.

This meeting marks a significant step forward in reinforcing the ties between Cambodia and Vietnam, highlighting a shared vision for prosperity and stability in the region.
